Implementation of Innovative Technologies in Solar

In support of the US Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Big Ideas Program, ECC supplemented the Eastern Distribution Center’s (EDC) current heating system with a solar-powered “green” heating system. The US DLA’s EDC is a 1.7 million-square-foot warehouse located in New Cumberland, PA that provides critical supplies for military personnel stationed overseas. ECC installed 55,000 square feet of transpired solar collection systems on the EDC, which decreased operating costs, saving $300K per year. The US DLA can then use the savings to reallocate the funds toward other programs. The facility is the largest solar air heating installation on a single building in the United States. The US Department of Energy has rated the SolarWall transpired solar panel invention in the top 2% of all energy innovations.
