ECC was awarded a mining-related program in the Middle East from the US Agency for International Development (USAID). A central goal of the program was to engage local small and medium enterprises in the extractives industry sector in fields including geoscience, construction, transportation, and consulting. A major component of ECC’s design for the diversification of the extractives industry sector included full participation of women in an economic sector that traditionally has seen little gender diversity.
